The standard prohibits makeshift and homemade hand tools on company premises and states that the right tools will be made available so that work can be performed safely. Hand tools used on site must be in good condition and safe for use, fitted with approved handles where handles are required, and used only for the purpose they were designed for; defective tools are withdrawn and repaired, replaced or destroyed.

Items marked EDA must have their expiry dates watched.
Although contractors must normally supply their own PPE, KLF may, under exceptional emergency circumstances and at the sole discretion of the Business Unit/Centre Manager, provide Personal Protective Equipment to a contractor, provided the contractor agrees to refund the cost.
SAFCOL issues adequate and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to every employee whose work carries residual risks that cannot be eliminated, and instructs each employee on how to wear, use and maintain it and on its limitations. No one may modify or alter the PPE issued to them, and no one may enter an area or do a task requiring PPE unless the PPE is available, in good condition and correctly worn.
