The DBE provides a structured national support framework (Care and Support for Teaching and Learning) with tools for provinces and schools to identify vulnerable learners and support them with poverty-related needs that can include uniforms and footwear. Assistance is provided continuously at provincial, district and school level based on identified need, available resources, and local support arrangements.

The Department is conducting a study to develop a framework (informed by international best practice) for recycling and repurposing key equipment including solar PV panels, and it will incorporate the study’s recommendations into contractual frameworks for projects procured under the IPPPP; the study will also consider beneficiation opportunities for communities and businesses to participate in recycling and repurposing across the value chain.
