Water SA is the Water Research Commission's accredited scientific journal, carrying original research and review articles on all aspects of water science, technology, engineering and policy. It is an open access journal, so all content is available without charge, and issues from Volume 44 (2018) onward are published at its own website.

The Water Research Commission and Share-Net have produced a series of lesson plan packs about water for Grades R to Grade 10, linked to the South African National Curriculum. Each pack contains five lessons, each on a different learning area, and ends with a rubric for assessing learners; packs can be used as they are or adapted to the local context.

WADER is a demonstration programme set up by the Department of Science and Innovation together with the Water Research Commission. Its aim is to bring together the applied research and pre-commercialisation stages of the water innovation chain and to create an environment in which water technologies can be fast-tracked to the market. The Water Research Commission publishes the overview of its Strategy 2028 on its website. It explains why the strategy was drawn up (rising pressure on water from population growth, water-intensive growth, rainfall variability and pollution) and what it commits the WRC to: contributing to improved water security through research, development and innovation, and continuing to enable research aligned with the National Development Plan: Vision 2030 and the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP) 2024–2029.
