Members and their covered family members receive a funeral expense benefit to help cover funeral costs when a covered family member passes away. Because of Insurance Act updates, the funeral benefit can only be paid to the person you officially nominated as your beneficiary, not to someone chosen by your employer.

Who it is for
members of the Fund and their husband or wife and close family (covered family members)
How to act on it
Ensure you have a valid funeral beneficiary nomination form and keep it updated; the benefit is then paid to your officially nominated beneficiary.

If you die while employed and covered, your retirement savings plus your Group Life Assurance (GLA) cover are combined as your death benefit. The Fund’s Board of Trustees then decide how to share this money among your dependants, using your beneficiary of nomination form as a guide.

Who it is for
members who die while employed and covered, and their dependants
How to act on it
Keep your beneficiary form up to date and tell your family that the fund will contact them if you pass away; the Board of Trustees uses your nomination as a guide when deciding how to share the benefit.
