Affies awards medal points to a learner for achievements in academic, sport, cultural and leadership activities and for 100% school attendance, inside or outside school context, with a maximum of 3 points per activity per year. Points are recorded from grade 8 to grade 12; at 20 points a learner earns a bronze medal, at 35 a silver medal and at 55 a gold medal, handed over at the October prize-giving function.
A list of these awards and honourable mentions is placed in the yearbook every year.
Academic honour colours are handed to learners who achieved an average of 80% or higher in the previous year, at the February prize-giving, where the best performers in the various subjects are also recognised.
Senior pupils who commute daily can stay at Huis Kruger in Arcadia, which has been in use since January 2016. They eat with all other boarders and participate in extracurricular activities.
Grade 8 learners can apply to stay in Huis Pannevis, the oldest boarding house at Affie High School, where they will be supervised by a house head and four prefects. They are required to study in the evenings under supervision.
Boarding students are invited to participate in community activities hosted by Oos-kerk, fostering social engagement beyond the school.
All boarders are expected to join at least one extracurricular activity per quarter, including sports such as athletics, swimming, rugby, cricket, water polo, hockey, and golf, as well as social events.
Students in grades other than Grade 8 live in Huis Frank le Roux in grade-based gangs, each with a guardian and prefect. All boarders share the same dining hall and use the media center after 16:00.
Students can enrol in Grades 8 to 12 at Affies (Akademie) by accessing the school’s Moodle platform, where they can find supplementary materials, subject information, and updates. Enrolment is open to all learners meeting the academic requirements.
A set of 34 recorded mathematics lessons for Grade 12 students, created by Mr. AJ Maree during lockdown, which are available on YouTube for free viewing by any learner across South Africa.
This is an opportunity for students and interested individuals to participate in the annual Affie-Artes cultural programme at Affies school. Participants can register using a provided form to take part in performances, exhibitions, or other cultural activities.
Swimming events are scheduled, including Pta-liga competitions and interhouse races. Events are held at Hillcrest and Westville.
