The Department implements School Safety Imbizo in collaboration with SAPS as a school-level intervention related to learner safety and drug prevention.
Through partnerships, offenders can receive educational support services including training and development of educators and learner support material (DBE), Adult Education and Training programmes (DHET), educational support to learners (UNISA), and digital teaching and learning for DCS schools (University of Stellenbosch through Telematics School Project).
The Department partners with the National Library of South Africa to promote information literacy, facilitate access to information resources, and empower offenders to read with understanding, including promoting and sustaining book clubs in facilities.
Offenders can access offender development programmes that are accredited and quality-assured by specified quality assurance bodies, as part of the Department’s rehabilitation programmes.
Offenders can access workplace learning opportunities in bakeries, farms and production workshops as part of rehabilitation programmes.
CISCO Networking Academy will implement online ICT related programmes to offenders and officials as part of a partnership.
Offenders can participate in sports, arts, culture and library programmes as part of the Department’s rehabilitation programmes.
A partnership provides Entrepreneurial Skills Programmes through an online learning model, training offenders and officials; training of 110 offenders and 11 officials is already in process.
For monitoring purposes, departments are requested to submit quarterly reports, including annual submissions covering the relevant reporting period, to the DPSA.
Departments with referrals for investigations must provide quarterly progress (using the adopted template) to the Public Administration Ethics, Integrity and Disciplinary Technical Assistance Unit (PAEIDTAU).
