Learners can apply to be considered for Grade 7 Councillors. Their application is scored using academic, sporting and cultural achievements, extra-murals participation and support, and leadership/monitor programmes, plus a qualitative questionnaire. Educators and Grade 6 learners vote, and the top 30–40 learners are selected for the first intake.

The form also provides an option to state reasons for not signing.

Parents can apply for permission for their child to bring a specific cell phone onto school premises during contact hours. The approval applies only to the phone listed and for the duration indicated on the permission letter, and a new application is required annually or if a different phone is used.
