Learners receive credentials in responsible tourism practices

This is a news/media statement from South Africa’s Department of Tourism about a certification ceremony held in Pretoria. The Department, in collaboration with the National Cleaner Production Centre of South Africa (NCPC-SA), recognised 21 youth who completed the Tourism Resource Efficiency Training Programme (RETP), a 24-month programme started in 2013. The statement says the training equips youth with resource-efficient and cleaner production methods (energy, water, environmental and financial resources) to reduce waste, emissions and environmental impact, and aligns with the National Tourism Sector Strategy to amplify responsible tourism practices and reduce the sector’s carbon footprint. It also quotes a Department official linking the certified RECP practitioners to supporting assessments and compliance for businesses in the Green Tourism Incentive Programme (GTIP).
