Voices of the Land permanent exhibition
The museum's permanent exhibition, also called Amazwi Elizwe / Landskrif, shows how South Africa's landscape has been represented in literature from colonial times to today, using original manuscripts, rare books, authors' notebooks and letters alongside audio, video and interactive touch screens. Outside there is a sculpture, 'Pencils', by Strydom van der Merwe and metal strips in the ground carrying quotations from three writers. The museum is open on weekdays 8.30-13.00 and 14.00-16.30, and on weekends and public holidays by appointment.
